Symptoms, effect and causes of urinating disorders

Symptoms : Uncontrolled passing of urine (incontinence), dribbling, or refusal to urinate.

Causes : Overly full bladder, nervous disorder after herniated disc, scarring and other tissue abnormalities, behavioral problems, weakness of the sphincter muscles in stressful situations. Incontinence is most often seen in older dogs, especially in spayed female.

Effect : Frequent vomiting causes and acid base imbalance in the body that may result in even more nausea and subsequent vomiting. If this condition continues for quite some time, a chronic gastritis (stomach inflamation) will occur.

Treatment

Take the dog to the vet. If the problem is hormonal, female is treated with low doses of estrogen and males are given endrogen. Ephedrine may be given to lower the response threshold of the muscle closing the bladder, thus reduce the incontinence.
