Symptoms, effect and causes of abscessed tooth
Symptoms :
Pain sensitive swelling next to the maxillary bone just below the eye. This infection can break through the skin as discharging sore. Often the eye if inflamed too.
Causes :
The dog has broken off a piece of a molar by biting down on a hard bone or a piece of wood or metal.
Effects :
An infection enters the root canal through the break in the tooth
Treatment for abscessed tooth
The vet takes an X-ray to find out which root is affected. Depending on the recommendations of the vet, the tooth may be extracted or root canal may be performed.
Follow up care and prevention for abscessed tooth
Follow up care :
To prevent the infection from spreading into the jaw, antibiotics in tablet form have to be given for at least a week.
Prevention :
Train the dog not to chew on stones and metal.
