Dog treats and snacks
It's pretty safe to say that dogs love treats. Dog treats can range from pieces of his regular kibble to commercial
treats to bits of hot dog, cheese, fruits or vegetables. Dog treats usually contain high levels of fat and carbohydrate.
Offer dog treats to your dog when it needs something to keep it interested, or as a reward. Do make allowances for their
high energy content. You may serve high-fat dog treats as rewards and modify your dog's normal food intake accordingly.
Tips on dog treats
- Keep dog treats special - offer only as reward
- Keep dog treats limited - no more than 10 percent of your dog's daily food intake
- Read dog treats label - aoid those that are high in sugar and fat, or give them only in small amount
- Vary dog treats - dogs like crunchy things, sweet things, and savory things
- Know what's not a treat - Chocolate, grapes, alcohol and onions are all toxic to dogs
